Hello,

I have a real dilemma, I have a FreeNas box with 8 250Gb Samsungs in it, I haven't used it for months, and I have no idea what's on it, if anything.

Problem is, when I started it up, one of the Samsungs was clicking it's heads off, and the system wouldn't startup, when I removed the clicking disk, then the system would still error saying there's not enough disks.

So what "protection" has one got against crashes like that, I was using RAID 0, but I don't think anything could save what has happened.

Is there any way I can check to see if there was any data on the pool ???

Comment please !?!?!

If you had RAID0 you have lost any data that was on the pool. You have zero protection from a disk failure in RAID0.

RTFM

Thanks for the prompt reply.

What would suggest, for a "safe" setup with multiple "older" disk's ???

I will read the guide :)

Thanks

I'd do a RAIDZ2. If you're worried about the disks and you wait for 8.3 you will be able to do RAIDZ3.
