As an IT pro, this year had to RMA 10% of all WD green Drives (2-3TB).

The replacement drives (from WD) have rotation speed of 5400 rpm, compared to a vague 7200 max on greens.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Hell, your 2TB Greens lasted this long? I'm jealous man. We bought at least 8 WD20EARS back when they came out in 2010 and I want to say they're all dead now ("yes I know what WDIDLE is.")

No green ever had anything but omega=5400RPM

That's not necessarily true, but I'm too lazy to find a specific model cite. Western Digital was roundly criticized for dropping RPM from the spec sheets back when they introduced IntelliPower.

http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/SpecSheet/ENG/2879-771438.pdf

See footnote 4: "For each WD Green drive model, WD may use a different, invariable RPM."

I believe that some of their earlier disks may have had different speeds. I particularly *want* to say that one of the first 2.5" greens was a 4200 RPM drive, but, again, I'm too lazy to find a specific model cite.

I've had good luck with WD-SE and WD-Reds, both in the 3TB flavor. I'd stay away from desktop class drives in general.

I've heard some models reported at 5900 RPM, but I can't find any citations off the top of my head.

This storage review article reports 5400 RPM with the 3TB Green model: http://www.storagereview.com/western_digital_caviar_green_3tb_review_wd30ezrsdtl
