I am looking for some guidance. Pre planning a predominantly media server with plex installed. I have
5 wd 2 tb green drives
4 toshiba 3 tb drives
And a hitatchi 1tb
I was considering using rdz2
Originally I thought of the wd greens in vd1 and the 3 tb drives in a second vd2 the 1 tb in a separate pool striped as this would be for dowloads etc
I now realise that the greens drives could well be a disaster waiting to happen therfore I was considering puting them in a seperate pool and protecting the 3tb drive data.
Can plex and other devices read over different pools ie films on one pool and tv music on another.
Any advice greatly appreciated

My recommendation would be to read CyberJocks's guide and get a good understanding of VDEV's and pools.

Smart test your drives. If they have errors, get rid of them. WDIDLE your WD green drives. Unless they have errors there is no reason not to use them in. If you have excessive time, read the WD Red vs Green post. There is some good information in there.
