Ran out of Sata slots on the motherboard so for a quick fix i got a Vantec UGT-ST420r.

It otherwise works fine but i keep seeing currently unreadable pending sectors.
Everything else works all the data intact and no other issues show.

Freenas 9.10 stable.

This is messing with my ocd lol.

Yeah and it's probably going to be messing with your pool before too much longer. Did you even think to check if it was supported by FreeBSD? I can't seem to find any information on what controller that card uses.

Supposedly it does but then again supposedly windows 8 was good.

Thankfully this is only a temp measure to get data moved over tell i can repair a faulty dlink nas power supply.

I currently use one in my ZoL box and I think it's why I get so many checksum errors. I'm excited to build a proper FreeNAS box to replace it.

There just so many different chipsets and firmware that's barely documented so its dumb luck i think if it works.

To dangerous in the long term i would think but for a quick repair or the like safe for a short period.

Yes, the usual problem with random SATA controllers is that they may not work. Some of the more recent ones are better in that they do a good job of supporting AHCI fully, but it's still largely random chance.

One pending sector isn't a big deal but you should keep an eye on this drive to see if more sectors get bad or not.
