Hi,
I'm facing the following error when trying to run a vmware snapshot :
Code:
(vim.fault.RestrictedVersion) {
   dynamicType = <unset>,
   dynamicProperty = (vmodl.DynamicProperty) [],
   msg = 'Current license or ESXi version prohibits execution of the requested operation.',
   faultCause = <unset>,
   faultMessage = (vmodl.LocalizableMessage) []
}

Do we need the paid license of ESXI to be able to use vmware snapshot feature ?

Thanks

I believe this is a vCenter plugin and does not work with a basic ESXI server.

I asked one of our developers who noted: I don't think that VMware snapshots themselves depend on the license, but last time I checked (VMware 5.0) without license it was impossible to manage VMware remotely, that may prevent FreeNAS from creating snapshots.

I'm having the same issue with an automated VMWare snapshot.
At the waring "alarm" (GUI) there's a warning of the VMWare snapshot error.
If I run it manually it doesn't work (GUI error), but for the automated if I go and check the list, the snapshots are there.
Also I'm replicating the automated snapshots and the content it's being replicated.

Can be that the snapshot is being taken by FreeNAS but it's not "VMWare" consistent ?

I'm pretty sure that is the case without the license.

OK, so dataset snapshot is taken, replicated but it's not VM consisten.

This is on how FreeNAS takes the snapshots, as I have a backup tool that connects to the ESXi and prior to backup makes an snapshot without problem (same free ESXi version).
