Hello,
i have an big prob with my NAS (8GB). Directly after installation on the first start the NAS is hanging. I see on my display "Waiting up to 5 seconds for ixdiagnose to finish... done." And nothing happens. After 1 hour i break the procedure and restarted the NAS manually.

This is my second installation. First installation (i have it still on my second stick) stops on boot when the PXE menu will be displayed:
Code:
F1 FreeBSD
F2 FreeBSD
F5 Drive 1
F6 PXE
Boot: F1
\

This will happen sometimes after i rebooting or shutdown the system before...

What brand of USB stick? What command are you using to write the image to the stick, or are you installing by CD?

I installed the freeNAS OS from CD on this stick.

Yeah.. I wouldn't call that "name brand". Try a Sandisk or Corsair. ;)

really? Is freeNAS vulnerable for cheap goods? :-/

As much as anything else. Microsoft has such strict guidelines for their Windows-on-a-USB-drive product that there are a whopping two models generally available which are compatible.

Most cheap USB drives are just really, really crappy.
