after my first FreeNAS setup, i feel in love with it, i decided to build another one. So i went and got myself a used Dell PowerEdge 840

same as last time, popped in the cd, change the bios settings.

Installed it onto a flash drive. rebooted took out the CD. Now iam at the screen where it says

F1 FreeBSD
F2 FreeBSD
F5 Drive 0

F6 PXE
Boot: F1
_ (Flashing)

it wont boot............ I tried a brand new SanDisk Cruzer 8 GB USB Flash Drive. Tried another USB disk. same thing. Any Ideas?

Are there any BIOS updates available for the server? If so, please update it.

Will the server boot from USB? Did you find a setting for it in the BIOS?

change the bios settings.

Thats the same question i had, but seeing it actually sees that there is FreeBSD on it. iam guessing, yet. it actually was able to boot. and find the OS on the stick.

Try your Sandisk in another computer and see if it will boot.

What are the specs on the server?

Try a google search using: site:forums.freenas.org power edge 840

And see of there are any forum messages about that model

I wiped the sandisk. but i did try the HP 4GB one. and it booted just fine.

I think i got it, it was my oversight, it was USB on without BIOS Support, changed it to BIOS Support and it worked.

well its loading now, let me see if it fully reloads, and if it reloads after a shutdown.
