Hi

My USB went bad and freenas server won't boot.

I am trying to create a new one, but running into difficulties.
Looks like I have to download the ISO and create a USB and then use that to create a bootable 9.10 USB?

Would be great if somebody clarifies. I only have win 10 pc and the disk image writer software creates the bootable USB, but the USB wont boot.
Why isnt there a image that when written to a USB just runs freenas instead of freenas installer?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Because it's not trivial and hasn't been a priority ever since 9.3 introduced ZFS boot.

As for writing the installer image to a USB drive, I've had good experiences with USB Image Tool (usbit) and others with Win32DiskImager. Rufus, on the other hand, frequently fails.

Right. Or mount the ISO in some other way (physical optical drive, whatever).
