Hello,

I recently got my hands on a nice board combo which includes:
-X10SLM+-F Motherboard
-Xeon E3-1220 V3
-24GB DDR3 ECC ( 2x8 + 2x4 )

My current FreeNAS System ( v9 ) uses:
-X8DTH-6F
-2x Xeon L5630
-64GB DDR3 ECC ( 4x16 )
-10x 4TB HDD ( WD & Seagate ) in RAIDZ3

I'm on the fence about switching over the boards in my current system to that X10SLM+-F based system mainly for RAM purposes.

Reading around the forums, I've now seen plenty of system builds out there that do not follow the 1GB per 1TB loose guideline.

However dropping down from 64 to 24 does seem like a lot, does anybody think this would prove problematic given my amount of storage? would going to 32GB be a much better idea?

My usage is mostly a single user accessing over 1gbe, no plugins or anything like that. However I have played with the idea of 10gbe down the road.

I'd like to go down to a single processor system for some power saving and I feel I can better utilize that other board for more demanding virtualization applications and such in another system.

Would like to hear any thoughts,

Thanks

If you aren't doing jails, plugins, etc. all the loss of RAM would do is lower your ARC.

As a single user system it's unlikely you would notice significant differences.
