So I'm trying to setup a SFTP server but I can't connect (using DDNS). I activated SSH & Dynamic DNS in the Services Tab in the WebGUI and forwarded port 22 and still can't access the SFTP server (sftp://[ddns adress]).

My goal is to securely access the FreeNAS windows share from anywhere. (arround 10 people should be able to access the FreeNAS, primary with their phones)

Thanks in advance.

Anything in /var/log/messages or /var/log/auth.log when the connection fails?

Those two statements don't sit well together. FreeNAS is not a hardened OS and opening SSH to the Internet is not a good plan.

You should consider using a VPN or similar service like zerotier (now included in the FreeNAS build) to avoid opening up port 22.

I am trying to setup a backup location where web servers can dump backup's
I use Vestacp and tried to setup its remote backup to connect to freenas through ssh, failed.

I have had success before, but using sftp, FTP but Secured.
how do I go about setting up sftp on freenas to receive backup dumps.
