Hi
I have a dusty box with disks that has been going for a while, but now when one of the drives started wiggling I am not so fond of it anymore. It is a homebrewn MSI mini-ITX with a Celeron 2,50 GHz, 8 Gb RAM, an SSD, and a HighPoint Rocketraid 2720 connected to 8 3,5 inch disks in Raid5. It has been hosting my media for many years, but now when a disk is starting to give up I realize that it is not very optimal.
When thinking of changing disks I of course wandered off in mind on maybe I should change the lot. Yea that would be nice but spare time is somewhat short for me atm. Then I ended up here:). My question is, do you think I could wait a while with building me a new rig and use the old one for a version 0.5 FreeNAS solution? I was thinking to skip the HW raid and just expose the disks directly to FreeNAS. Would it work? Would it be very stupid?
Best regards
