I'll start with what many threads in here start with, I am a complete noob when it comes to this stuff, and I apologize for the igornance here. I tried searching for an answer and I think the answer is I am SOL, but I thought I would post and confirm.

Anyways I had miniDLNA 1.0.21.1-amd64 installed and was running into problems, namely I couldn't get the silly thing to start. So I uninstalled it and tried .5, but that didnt work so I uninstalled it and put .4 back on.

Somewhere in that mess something odd happened. I logged into the NAS via the CIFS share and I noticed that I am missing ~3.2TB out of the ~3.5TB I had before. Where did they go? Does Freenas/MiniDLNA have a habit of accidentally deleting files? Is this why snapshots are the way to go (which,of course, I didn't have setup and will in the future).

Is there any way to get the files back similar to an undelete program available via Windows?

Nope, but did you go to the jail and start deleting files? A lot of people have deleted files in the jail and didn't realize they were deleting their media library.

And yes, snapshots are likely to save you in a situation like this ;)
