because i can no longer acess the server from any device in the house! it was set up 6 years ago and stopped working 2 years ago. it is a 4Tb server with movies, music and pictures on it. looking for someone to trouble shoot.

If you have no clue what it has or what it needs, how do you know it needs updating?

It stopped working two years ago, and you're just now asking about it? Must not be very important. But let's start with the basics:
  • Does the machine turn on?
  • If it does, does it boot?
  • What does it show on the screen?

ive tried various people and they have flaked out on me. is it important? no as it is just another way to watch movies and store pictures. i lost internet this week, so it has bumped up my list. no netflix = no tv. i dont have a monitor attached to it. it boots up and runs. it has to run for some reason for me to be able to get internet to my TVs. this is just a hardware issue i am sure. but need someone to come look that knows what they are looking at.

so if you live west end and want to make a few bucks. drop me a line.

We sure don't know, you haven't given us anything to go on, like screenshots and the like.

You probably think way too highly of your local shop if you think they'll get you out of this one in an objectively satisfying way.

Press Delete to ignore the warning and show us what version of FreeNAS you have. If it even boots, that is - you only have two disks (and a DVD drive, for some reason) and no USB Mass Storage devices.

From this picture I see:
  • One unidentified SATA device (SATA1)
  • One drive tagged as having an error ("3rd Master")
  • The use of IDE compatibility mode for SATA ports rather than AHCI
  • WD Green (EARS) drives likely with a sky-high load cycle count
  • No USB drives to boot from (did you remove the stick to plug in the keyboard?)
  • 4GB of RAM
  • I'm guessing a very old version of FreeNAS
  • And a partridge in a pear tree
Taking all bets, but this thing is in a royal mess, especially given that it "hasn't worked in two years" according to your comments.

You may be able to use a very old version of FreeNAS to reinstall onto a fresh USB stick and see what's what, but frankly - how do you know this is even a FreeNAS machine? Unless it was set up in a very ill-advised and unsupported configuration, there's no reason it should need to run in order to give your smart TVs Internet access to get to Netflix.

I think OP's issue is that his Internet is down, so he can't watch Netflix. And since his FreeNAS (maybe?) box is down, he also can't stream movies from that.
