Hi, I have a pretty big problem. My FreeNAS has, all of a sudden, stopped responding. Power cycling the unit has not helped and the ASRock interface reports that there is nothing wrong with the hardware. Though I cannot get to the FreeNAS SSH or Web controls. (Goes without saying that the Jails are not working either.)

What can I do to fix this? I can't find any way to get any report from the unit to determine what I need to do to get this working again.

Thank you, in advance for the help on this.

Please provide your server specs, FreeNAS version, messages you see when booting your server. This might be as easy as the boot got corrupted and you need to re-install, but the folks here will need some information.

I just tried hooking up a monitor and a keyboard to the unit and it doesn't seem to work. (meaning the screen doesn't even recognize being connected to a computer.) So I can't tell you what is on the screen. Unless there is another way to go about this.

This is a FreeNAS Mini, beyond that I can't find any other way to get you further specs. Any ideas?

Your data should be safe. Do a search on these forums for "asrock watchdog dead" and you'll find this has been a common problem here of recent. Were you running the latest stable version of FreeNAS?

If it is under warranty and this is indeed the problem just have iXsystems replace it and wen you get the new board, plugging everything in should get you back up and running again.

Yes, I was running the latest stable version of FreeNAS software. I try to keep it up to date.

Are you referring to the posts about disabling watchdog in the bios and FreeNAS software?

So the instruction say I need to get into the BIOS of the unit. However, I cannot get a monitor to show a display on it. What am I doing wrong? This is driving me absolutely crazy! I need the data on this thin for my company and I can't get to it!

There has to be an easier way to do this!!

The data is most likely safe and sound on the HDs.

It sounds like a hardware failure of some sort.

Replacing the failed part should fix the problem.

If it was super urgent, mounting the drives in any other system with sufficient ports and a FreeNAS boot USB would let you get at the data.

If this is an IxSystems FreeNAS mini then you need to contact them

Thanks for the heads up. I cannot find any contact information for this kind of support. Is there a number I can call?

Look up iXsystems on the web. They are located in San Jose, California. I would call their main number if you can't find one for support.

@TheBestIGot are you certain it's out of warranty? We just announced today we've extended our warranty on second generation FreeNAS Mini motherboards to 3 years.

Just the motherboard? Does that mean I would have to remove it and send it in, or I would send in the whole unit?

The best thing you can do is contact customer support and ask. From my information, customer support may provide an advanced replacement of the motherboard. Customer support will be happy to assist anyone needing help with replacing the defective motherboard which can then be sent back.
