Long time user for FreeNAS 9 here, I run a high-grade server currently with some Plex and the like, nothing complex. I just Installed Corral on my old FreeNAS box, which is high powered hardware but nothing like my current server. Consider it a test bed.

I run vmWare on another server, and I would like to use my FreeNAS 10 device to present some LUNs for storage.

I cannot for the life of me find any sort of guide, and my creation strategies keep failing. Can anyone assist with a walkthrough on presenting a LUN on FreeNAS 10?

I am running my storage on 2X Mirrors according to the Virtualization storage profile.

Here are system specs, though remember this is a development environment of sorts... Requirements are simple- present one, whole disk ISCSI LUN to vmWare.

Platform
AMD A4-4000 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
2 Cores @ 2.99GHz
CPU VM Support
Partial
Memory
15.17GB
HDD
14.53GB x 1
931.51GB x 4

Corral is dead. Suggest you use current stable 9.10 or maybe the soon-to-be-final release 11. Both those have guides with the info you seek.

How do you even stumble upon Corral this late in the game?

Well, the box has been up and running but not used in my office for roughly 2 months, and I had the intention of using it once I had time. But I looked up what happened and now see... though if you just search Google for "FreeNAS Corral 10" you see things like https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...-destination-but-heralds-new-beginning.51504/ and no mention of it being canned. I guess I dont spend enough time in the forums!

Maybe those announcement and discussion threads should be removed or a disclaimer added in the OP of each that Corral has been abandoned.

@Ericloewe @JoshDW19 @wblock @Chris Moore what are your thoughts on this?

Yeah, I'll add some notes.

But that doesn't explain where Corral is found so easily. It should only be available buried within download.freenas.org.

There wasn't a lot of news and fanfare around can-exing the project. It just kind of quietly slipped away. I had gone as far as setting up a third system running it in preparation for making the switch. I am sure happy that I wasn't an early adopter.

I disagree. There was an immensely long thread about it, r/freenas had several threads, Kris Moore was on BSD now to talk about the whole thing, it blew up on STH, ...

At one point, I literally could not keep up with the flow of questions and had to write an FAQ to try and slow it down.

Sorry, I don't get on the forum as much lately. When I say it wan's in the news, I mean that I didn't see any coverage of it on any of the other sites I do visit until I saw a YouTube personality complaining about it after they had spent a couple weeks putting out a whole series of videos about how to install and configure Corral. After I watched that video, I went looking for more information and found a few mentions of it, but you shouldn't think that because it is 'news' on this forum that anyone, anywhere else, is talking about it.

I heard about that personality. Sadly, he will be missed. :(

Getting burned like that after so much hard work is the kind of thing you don't forget and you'll have a hard time trusting the dev team again in the future. :(
