Ok well first off ill let you know my use case, the main reason I'm build the NAS is for storing:
  • Raw Image files
  • Movies, Audio
  • Documents
  • And System backups
Now, I don't have much of money and I also live in AUS which makes it difficult to get parts from supermicro.

I'm also just building one for the experience, since I'm going into the IT industry soon.

So this is my proposed build:

MOBO: Asus H97I-PLUS
CPU: Intel Pentium G3420
RAM: Corsair ValueSelect CMV8GX3M2A1600C11 8GB Kit
Case: Coolermaster Elite 130
PSU: EVGA 500B (100-B1-0500-KR) 500Watt 80Plus Bronze Power Supply Unit
HDD: Seagate 3.5" NAS 2TB 5900RPM

I also understand that its not an ECC build, but the difficulty to source those parts for me just isn't worth it and the data being stored on the NAS isn't that important.

Are you only planning to put one 2TB drive in it? At a minimum, I'd put two in the server and mirror them for redundancy.

You need a minimum of four disks to use RAIDZ2. Two disks could be configured as either a stripe (fast, high capacity, but if either disk fails you lose all your data) or a mirror (still pretty fast, half the capacity, your data is safe if either disk dies).
