Do I need to manually remove older versions after an update? Please see attached pic. I removed all but Default and Current, but I am wondering if I can make a setting somewhere to save maybe one or two, not every version to prevent this from happening again.

Thank You!

Yup. There's no automated mechanism as each user would have their own idea of which BEs they want to keep...

That is strangely full.

I would do this:

Remove the DEFAULT. You don't need it, and it's old. Then see where you're at.

Also, word to the wise, for most people, the removal of these boot environments from the freenas-boot pool takes a very significant amount of time. You might find it take 10-20 minutes per. So be patient.

I have 26 different environments, starting early February. Used space is at 5.9GB.

I deleted all but current and default (prior to posting and reading your comments). Next time I will keep one or two plus the current. Not sure why mine used up so much space. My boot volume is only 7.4 GB. Etiher way, thank you all for your responses.

Cheers!

"default" is pretty much useless, I think. It's just the old, original iso one.

I personally keep the last N, where N is whatever number that fills less than 2/3 of my 16GB mirrored USB sticks.

The default is one you shouldn't delete. It's a fresh install with no config file. That's your "oh shit" boot environment if things go wonky.
