FreeNAS and tape drive for backup

I've been looking into this myself, although I haven't actually cracked it yet.
Is TAR present in FreeNAS 8 ? you can write to tapes using TAR.
To see if the tape drive is showing up in the OS, type "mt status" and see what it puts out (That's a Solaris command, mt might be different under BSD)
