I am trying to recover from the Samba/CIFS permissions problem and want to move my data to a new volume. I have 4 drives that seem to test ok. I have wiped them with gparted, tried to put new ntfs on with gparted, then removed MBR with HGST utility. I have changed drives, changes cables and controllers from IBM 1015 to old Intel 2TB card (changes to da6.) Error always comes up. This is hardware that seems to be working.

I have 8 core AMD, 16GB ECC ram. Two existing volumes.

I reviewed:
http://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/unable-to-gpt-format-disk-ada2-various-issues.17342/

http://forums.freenas.org/index.php...rror-unable-to-gpt-format-the-disk-ada0.3738/

There are no volumes to auto add. Geom comes up blank. I detached and reattached my existing volumes.

I am in quite a pickle now. I am unable to make new volumes and I can't take down my volumes with bad ACLS until I fix this.

Here is info from FreeNAS:

I just had success with one Hitachi drive (!) using their utility for disk wipe. Will advise any other problems. Thanks for heads up. I was worried that there was a FreeNAS bug and would need to build a legacy box to initialize volume.

p.s. I used GPARTED to wipe MBR. I didn't try full erase until now.
