FreeNAS 9.1 not detecting a drive

As per title really.

FreeNAS 9.1 is up an running. I can browse to the GUI and SSH on to the box.

However from the GUI it appears no HDD are recognised ! I have have installed 4 x 3TB disks

Code:

dmesg | grep -e ada

returns nothing from the command line.

Please help.......Any advice would be be much appreciated

Without any hardware information it is hard to just guess what the problem is, but I would say you have an unsupported drive controller...

Thanks for the response.

The PC is a regular HP Microserver Gen8 G2020T with 4 x 3TB (3TB Red SATA 6Gb/s 64MB 3.5" Hard Drive) Western Digital drives.

When I reboot the Micoserver and use the "HP Smart Storage Administrator" then the drives are recongised and I'm able to create a RAID array should I wish - I haven't because I thought ZFS used the disks in non-RAID

What other information could I give you ?

I should point out the the HDD are brand new and have not yet been formatted - they are straight out of the box

But what are they plugged into?

Plugged straight into the non-hot-swappable disk caddies - I'd imagine its SATA behind the scenes. I guess becuase they can be identified by "HP Smart Storage Administrator" it means they are are seated properly/getting power etc...

I am complete newcomer to FreeNAS, so as you can imagine I have very little experience, but am very keen to learn.

I meant is there any 'commands' to provide you guys with information to narrow down the issue.

How are your hard drives configured in that raid card?

Hi

I've sussed it. The HP RAID was taking precedence over AHCI. So i have disabled the RAID stuff and enabled AHCI then rebooted - I can now see all 4 x 3TB disks + 1 SSD in the freeNAS GUI.

Thats sounds about right to me......What do you reckon

And don't do ZFS with 2GB of RAM.. 8GB minimum for ZFS or you can kiss your data goodbye someday...
