Ok I have a post written up but it doesn't like something about my code block so...uhhh...hold on while I sort that.

This morning I couldn't get into my FreeNAS box. Accidentally unplugged it while I was trying to attach a monitor...so why it was frozen, we may never know.

Anyway, trying to reboot and I'm stuck! Here's what it's saying:

About the 3854 MB -- I had a stick of RAM go bad a few months ago. I have the replacement sitting here ready to go. Ha! My poor, neglected box.

Setup is just a simple older Compaq tower with 2x2Tb drives stuffed in it. They attach SATA through a Promise ATA card.
Booting from a 4 Gb USB flash drive

I did try rebooting and telling Freenas to just dump be to the boot loader, then I tried typing what it wanted, but it just said "Ok" and didn't really make any effect in anything.

Beyond that I am actually clueless as to what to try. Teach me.

Here is the error. I typed it all up, but the bulletin board hates something in it and won't let me post it as text. Sorry!

hey!

Just wondering if you ever got that problem solved... I've run into the exact same thing on a new install now. Tried 2 different sticks and almost every available version!

You don't have the drives plugged into a USB3 port do you? You will see a mountroot prompt if you do as USB3 is disable in FN8 by default.

I'm running into the same problem here, and yes I have a 16 Gb Corsair plugged into an USB3 port? How can I enable this?

The FreeNAS manual has a step somewhere on how to enable the USB 3.0 ports. It wasn't enabled by default because alot of boards cause kernel panics when it's enabled(if I remember correctly).
