I am in the process of migrating from R7 to R8 ... just a few questions if I may ...

  • If I choose to go with FreeNAS-8.0.4-RELEASE-p3, which is well-tested by now, and later decide to move to the R8.2, R8.3 or R9.0 once stable ... will I have to reformat the ZFS drives, like R7 --> R8, to go forward?
  • If not can I just plug in a new USB key with the new release and it will pick up from there?
  • And then if so will the configuration be preserved?
  • Does R8 and the corresponding FreeBSD release support the Marvel drivers libmbpool.ko/if_myk.ko natively? I'm using an Acer H340 server.

Thanks!

No, no reformatting forward.

Not quite. You would need to auto-import the zpool or restore your old config.

Nope. Unless you backup your config first ;)

Not sure. FN 8 is currently based off FreeBSD 8.2. If it works in FreeBSD 8.2 it should.

Thanks for your reply and information. I suppose I've been lax on my saving of the configuration. ;-( Will look at this procedure shortly.

I'll have to wait for my backup exercise to finish as I need to pull off R7 and move to R8. There appears to be few reliable alternatives. Since the H340 is a headless system, I'll have to await the next release to try it with FreeNAS. Again that has to wait for it and the data.
