FreeNAS 11 + X11 + USB boot?

Hi, I'm preparing my first FreeNAS server build based on Supermicro X11SSM-F-O with a Xeon E3 and I'm wondering about the USB boot issue. I've read in other posts that xHCI is not supported on FreeNAS and therefore it won't boot of a USB on X10/X11 MB. Does that still hold true for FreeNAS 11 or was that just an issue with older FreeNAS versions (pre 11)? I would rather avoid buying a $100 SSD if I can boot of a $10 USB stick, especially since from what I understand I won't be able to use the boot disk for any jails/VMs, correct?

XHCI has been supported since FreeNAS 9.10, therefore you will not have any issue booting from a USB flash drive.
