First Install - error 6 prior to getting to console setup

A co-worker suggested freenas, so I got hardware and I'm finally getting around to installing it. I'm using a CD to install. I get GRUB menu, select FreeNAS installer, but then I get "FreeNAS failed with error 6". It seems to want me to manuall specify the root filesystem. I'm left with a prompt like this:

mountroot>

I've got a Thinkserver TS140, 8GB rab. I've tried two USB sticks, both of which did not work.

Do the USB sticks need to be wiped prior to attempting an install?

Sorry if I missed this in the help. I search and didn't find anything.

Walk us through how you made the install usb/cd. Step by step like i have no clue how to do it.

Thanks for the quick response. It took me a while to do my homework.

Hardware specs:
Lenovo TS140 server motherboard
Intel Core i3-4130 processor
2x Hynix 4GB DDR3 1600MHZ ECC (8GB total)
Hard Disks - 2X HGST DESKSTAR NAS H3IKNAS30003272SN 3TB drives
On board NIC and raid controller

freeNAS version: 11.1

Walk through:
downloaded freeNAS .iso here: http://www.freenas.org/download-freenas-release/
double clicked on the .iso file and used the
used windows disc image burner to burn a DVD of the .iso
used that disc in my attempt to install freeNAS when problems stated above occurred.

Used a Sandisk CRUZER fit 32GB USB stick first
then tried a Patriot Xporter XT 32GB next
same issue occurred with both.

Hopefully that's specific enough. If I'm skipping details, let me know. Thanks again for the help

Seems like maybe the CD you created is messed up. Can you try to create a install media with one of the USB stick and then install to the other USB stick?
