Recently I've had bad luck with one adata su800 512gb SATA. The h2testw and my own app too detected write errors that were not detected by the disk itself.

RMAing.

I may buy such for ZFS in future but mirror them. EDIT: maybe I wouldn't need mirror since we're talking about a boot drive...

Swedish market must be different then.

I think the main thing is that the Swedish market isn't really big enough for parts that aren't likely to be of interest to mainstream consumers to really be worth importing. Tech is more expensive in general here anyway. The price for the BX300 is low enough that if the BX series is not significantly worse than the MX series, it's probably my best option.

Alright, parts have been ordered and should all be here in 1-2 weeks.

Thanks again everyone for all your help!

Is there any reason to go with the X11SSM-F over the X11SSH-F, or, is there any reason why I would want the extra PCI-e slot?

IIRC, that m.2 slot is only 2x, and the PCIe slot s 4x.

How did the build go? I am also in Sweden, I have purchased the R6 and would like to do something similar.

The build went very well. The only problem was that I had to head out and buy two additional SATA cables as the motherboard came with 6 out the 8 I needed. That said, it's probably not expertly configured on the software but I haven't noticed any issues.

Here are some pictures. I went with the tempered glass version and front-mounted SSDs for vanity reasons. :p

I've added the final configuration for the build to my signature for reference but unfortunately it seems like Crucial is no longer selling the RAM and SSDs I used.

Here's some shopping advice for anyone who wants to replicate it in Sweden:
  1. Buy the motherboard and UPS from https://www.proshop.se/, it's a Danish company selling directly to the Swedish market. It's the only place where I could find brands like SuperMicro, APC, and GIGABYTE in Sweden. There are no import fees either, but delivery can take a couple of weeks.
  2. The RAM and SSDs were ordered from https://eu.crucial.com/ but as stated above they don't seem to be selling these exact units anymore, so I can't really help you there.
  3. I bought the CPU on https://www.tradera.com/, but it was a lucky find and pretty overpowered as mentioned before, so you can probably do better.
  4. The rest of the components were purchased from https://www.komplett.se/, https://www.netonnet.se/, https://www.inet.se/, and the like. Most of the parts can be purchased from any of them so it's just a matter of finding the cheapest option.
  5. I bought the drives from multiple places to reduce the risk of all of them being bad. Worth considering if buying from multiple places.

BX Seems slower but can handle more IO over its life time MX seems to be faster but can not handle as much IO I've tested both and it seems to be the case.

Crucial seems to have replaced the BX300 model with the BX500. These seem tombe cheaper, but I have read posts recommending against using for boot drives because they are DRAMless drives. I'm not sure if that applies to FreeNAS though, as I seem to remember the entire OS being loaded into RAM. What effect if any would DRAMless SSDs have on FreeNAS?
