Is the purpose of these default Media user and Group (8675309) meant to be set as the default user for Media jails (E.g. Plex, Sonarr, etc)? Inclusive of all of the associated data sets?

Said differently is it meant to work like this:

Mediajail run as Media
Mediajail dataset owned by Media
Media dataset (videos or music) owned by Media

I'm trying to understand when I should use this or just completely ignore it, although it seems to be the default for the plugins.

Well I am not sure about the default group that is built into FreeNAS for Media but I know that plex sets a user and group that are number 972, And I think the user and group are both Plex so the Media group as ownership is honestly irrelevant for my situation and likely will be for yours as well.

Most of the time you will be handling the media and the ownership will be of whichever user and group put it there. Plex can read the media and that is generally the most important thing.

I haven't messed with the plugins enough to even know what they are using you CAN make it so that plex can delete files but it's a pain and honestly isn't needed unless you have a large library of things you don't really want to keep and don't want to have to switch back from the web browser to a file manager to deal with. Each media package seems to have it's own default user and group when they get installed I don't know them all but transmission is 921. My work around for things to be able to deal with data permissions is to create a group in each jail that has the GID that corresponds with my Samba group and then create a user in FreeNAS that corresponds with the jail user and make sure the user in the jail is a part of the Samba group in both the Jail and FreeNAS. Then just make sure the permissions of the media is 77X number normally 774 or 775 so that the user and group both have read/write/execute access. While this may not be the best way it has worked for me so far. I am however not using windows ACL's which is said to be a no no but making a jail that has access to a file with read write was a pain to work with.

Hopefully this helps to answer your question and I am sure others will chime in as they see fit.
