I dont know what happened. I upgraded and some how I didn't save the current configuration, I have no idea how I missed it. After the upadate installed my FreeNAS server was on a different port. When I log in nothing is there, no shares, no settings, services etc. It's like a brand new install. Still I have to log in with my root/pwd that I configured... which is odd. But no other setting remains.

I am freaking out here because I have like 10 TB of data that was fine a few minutes ago... and still is... but FreeNAS forgot where it is.

You've been a member long enough you should be generally familiar with the rules. Hardware probably isn't too relevant, but things like what version of FreeNAS you upgraded from, which version you upgraded to, exactly how you did the upgrade, etc. Your data's still there; Storage -> Import Volume will bring it online, but you really want to get your config file back to get your shares, users, etc. set up as they were.

You should be able to goto storage and select import pool, and it should find it all, as for the shares and all, i guess they'd need to be reconfigured. When you say an upgrade did you go from? I.E 9.2 to 9.3? Or was it a 9.3 update?

Ah dam it @danb35 you JUST beat me too it lol

Sorry the laugh at your misery but that one caught me off guard. Of course you have a backup of your important data somewhere, right? Unless you did something stupid (and it happens) then as the others have said, your data is likely there, just import the pool(s).

Yes. I have a backup of the data about 10 hours/5 states away which would be a big hassle. I managed to find a backup of my configuration from a year ago (last upgrade) which had all of my volume and share info. It looks like all of the data is intact and everything is OK. I was updating from 9.1.2 to 9.3 and after the box rebooted it forgot all of my settings except the root user password. It also briefly showed my plex jail then no jails at all. It was very strange and I was hoping that I could easily recover at that point because the data was there. Very happy that I was able to restore. Also good to know that I could have at least imported the volumes and rebuilt the shares etc and the data would still be there. Thanks.

You must incrementally upgrade from 9.1.2 to 9.3. There was an upgrade issue way back when. I don't recall the exact steps but it is documented in the forums. If that is your goal, it won't take too long, it's just a pain.

The important part is not updating from 9.2.1 releases before 9.2.1.6, ideally 9.2.1.9 or 9.2.1.8, maybe 7.
