Hello everyone,

I want to build a homelab server ans I have a problem making the passthrough work with my configuration. I do not see the disk attached to the controller that is in passthrough mode on ESXi.

I have enable VT-x and VT-d in the BIOS.

I have configure the controller in passthrough mode

and attached it to the virtual machine

I have no error when starting FreeNAS but it wont see any of the drivers that are on the controller.

I have tested it with the FreeNAS 9.3 BETA and the FreeNAS 9.1.2.9. Is my controller not compatible with FreeNAS?

Thank you in advance,

Benoit

What controller do you have? Is it on the FreeBSD HCL? Have you tried installing FreeNAS directly on the HW as a test instead of ESX?

It is an integrated controller : ICH10R Controller

I don't think it is in the HCL but I did install FreeNAS directly on the server, without being a VM on ESXi, and everythink is working fine. All the disks are detected.

Is it a compatibility issue with the passthrough?

I'm not sure you can pass an Intel chipset through cleanly...

I was unable to do PCI passthrough of on-board controllers on the X8 and X9 boards I tested.

I assume the X8 had an ICH10R as well, so that pretty much confirms it.
