Hello,
I am currently looking to store PHI data on one of my volumes. The thing is I know I will have a PCI auditor asking what encryption method is used and prove it. I looked through the user guide for version 11 and can't find any documentation that states something like "AES-256 is used". Is there any documentation or even better a way for me to show an external auditor that these drives are encrypted and with what type of encryption?

The command geli list should show what drives are encrypted along with the algorithm and crypto used.

I'd recommend filing a bug report so that the specifics of the encryption algorithm used are added to the manual. I'm fairly certain it's AES-XTS.

To show that the disks are encrypted, you can use geli status, which should list all the encrypted partitions.

Both of those commands should suffice for what I need. Thank You both for the help with this!
