I've installed FreeNAS as a guest on ESXi.
I have two EFI related issues:
1: When booting the FreeNAS installation ISO in EFI mode I get this error:
FreeNAS_EFI.jpg

2: I'm able to boot the FreeNAS installation ISO in legacy mode and starting the installation.
When the installation script ask about BIOS or EFI I selected EFI.
I then change the BIOS mode to EFI mode and booted the new FreeNAS installation located on the harddisk.
But once again I get this errror:
FreeNAS_EFI_HDD0.jpg

FreeNAS_EFI_HDD.jpg

:-(

Any solutions?

The problem is I need to boot from a passthrough controller (a NVMe PCIe disk), and this only seem to be possible in EFI mode.
Or I think, when I tried legacy the BIOS couldn't see the controller.

Yep. You can’t. Unless the NVMe supports bios boot.

You can boot off a pass through USB or USB controller.

Well, the problem is FreeNAS that doesn't seem to support EFI boot, even though you can enable it when you install FreeNAS.
At least remove the option in the installation program if it doesn't work!
The best solution would of course be to fix the EFI boot support in FreeNAS.....but I understand that it's always a matter of priorities.

Are you sure?

You notice ESXi says “EFI” boot and not “UEFI”

AFAIK, EFI is used to boot MacOS.
