E-mail error

Hi,
When configuring e-mail I get the following e-mail when I click the "send mail" button:

[EFAULT] Failed to send email: [Errno 8] hostname nor servname provided, or not known

I've gotten no relevant results from web searches. Any thoughts?

Nobody can help you unless you tell us what you configured on your System->Email server settings.

From the shell on your FreeNAS box, what happens if you try to ping smtp.gmail.com?

Do you have an email address entered for the root user?

Gmail might not accept root@freenas.local as from address.
If the ping suggested by danb35 fails, check you FreeNAS dns settings and the default route.

hmm, when I ping, I get:
ping: cannot resolve smtp.gmail.com: Host name lookup failure

How do I check my FreeNAS dns settings and the default route?

Network, Network Summary

Default route - your router/gateway address

I'd try the same for Nameserver 1, 8.8.4.4 for 2, 8.8.8.8 for 3.

I fixed it. I didn't have my default gateway specified. D'oh!
