Folks,

I was trying to install one application that has other dependencies that you have to manually install (i.e. nginx). I thought the point of packages was to check all dependencies and install all that's needed. Am I wrong with that assumption or it all depends on how the developer created that package?

For instance, if someone creates a femp package, I'd expect to have all dependencies and nginx, SQL (Maria/ MySQL) and PHP installed...

Thoughts?

Most do if it is a hard dependency but for something that can use either nginx or apache the user is allowed a little latitude to decide. Same goes for the dbase, one person wants MySQL and someone else wants to use MariaDB. Since there are certain applications that will work either way it can often be left up to the user and listed for them to choose. It also depends on who is making the decisions on the pkg/port. This is both the beauty and curse of FOSS

It makes sense and unless a plugin or a docker is available, you got to install all dependencies to your like.
