Do I still need to setup snapshots?

I see that in 11.3 SMB Shadow Copies are now enabled by default for new shares. Does this mean that snapshots are being setup automatically? What is the difference between Shadow Copies and snapshots?

I've not read too deeply into them but from what I've seen they are using the snapshots that you setup on the dataset

When you check the "shadow copies" checkbox all snapshots are presented to SMB clients (manual, ones from snapshot tasks, etc) as shadow copies. It does not create them for you. This should be done by creating a snapshot task or taking manual snaps.
