I am trying to figure out what is causing this behavior, two of my disks go offline (either one at a time) and a reboot fixes it. I reconnected the SATA cables, reseated them and the power supply cables etc. Looking for ideas to figure out if this is an issue with my hardware or a software glitch because a reboot fixes it every time.

Code:
kernel log messages:

Similarly,
Code:

If you have any data you want to keep, back it up now! If you end up dropping three drives at the same time you data may all be lost. Once you have done that I'd run a short smart test first to see if there is something you find right away, then a long test. Also could you post the results of 'smartctl -a' results for the drives? Is it always the same two drives?

Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you think that this could be a disk issue rather than a controller/software problem?
Here are the smartctl -a for the two drives in question.

The drives appear to be fine to me. Did this problem just start and can you correlate it to ether a software change or hardware change, moving the case, something? What FreeNAS version are you running?

I'd start looking at hardware then. I'm not going to give you the ECC RAM speech, hopefully you have heard it before. First I'd replace the SATA cables for those 2 drives. If that doesn't fix it you can try to isolate it to the drives or the MB, shut down the system and take the two drives in question and swap the SATA connections on the MB to two other locations. Power up the system and see how it looks. If the fault follows the drives then I'd suspect the SATA cable or hard drives. If the failure moves to two different drives than it's the MB or software. You will have to take it slow and pay attention to what does or doesn't make a difference.
