Is there any customization on FreeBSD that FreeNas runs or FreeNas is only a custom interface that uses tools of FreeBSD....?

Is there possible to do the same things that FreeNas do on a base FreeBSD system without interface or any customization of FreeBSD source code ???

You can run regular FreeBSD and do all the things that FreeNAS offers, but you won't have the webby interface.
