Hi All,

I have the dreaded /dev/ada0, 3 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors and will need to replace my drive.

My question, is there a way to easily determine which bay on my system my ada0 drive is in? I dont want to pull the wrong drive.

Thanks for your help,
David

You identify disk by serial number, not the arbitrary label FreeNAS gives it.

This is covered in the manual in the replacing a drive section. You can obtain the serial number as @m0nkey_ pointed out.

If you didn't mark them when they were first installed, I'd get the serial number from the bad drive, shut down and then remove it. The disk names can change. I always use the description field to annotate which bay a disk is in immediately after it is installed, that way I don't have to worry about pulling the wrong drive as this data will be linked by the serial number in the FreeNAS database. So...next time you insert a new drive, make a note in the description field to save the headache.
