FreeNAS-9.1.1-RELEASE-x86 (a752d35)

I'm getting an alert that "The volume raid3 (UFS) status is DEGRADED"

Volume Status sits on "Loading..."

Can someone please point me to a troubleshooting guide and maybe a few suggestions?

Thanks!

Does the volume not load at all? UFS/x86 is about to be retired within FreeNAS.. 9.2.1.3 should be the final build..I don't use UFS but what is the output of "graid3 status". Aswell as "camcontrol devlist" Please post the output in code tags..

You should also be able to run "smartctl -q noserial -a /dev/ada#" for your disks to see smart values.. Please post these aswell..

More info on your general setup/hardware would be great..

Thanks,

Quick question: Is it possible a firmware update will fix ada0?

I'll do the update on 1 and 2. I'm just wondering if I should RMA ada0 now or try the firmware update on it, first.

Thanks!

No it wont fix the errors.. You could run hard drive tools to run over every sector.. I still wouldn't trust it.. Is it under warranty? Maybe run a long smart test..

Edit: Infact I dont see smart tests for any drive.. Please run short/long tests on all drives..

OK I replaced the bad drive but it didn't automatically start rebuilding the array. In the past, and on older versions of FreeNAS when I replaced a bad drive this happened automatically. Am I doing something wrong?

Hey, I'm very familiar with the documentation on replacing a failed drive and it starts with "if you are using ZFS" but then never gets to UFS.

I have done this before on older versions of FreeNAS and once the bad drive is replaced the RAID array would automatically rebuild.

When I replaced the bad drive I got a message that 2/3 drives were good and the status of the array was DEGRADED but then it said it couldn't determine the size of the array in the Size under View Volumes and there were no messages about the array being rebuilt--I'm not sure what to look for or how to troubleshoot.

I put the bad drive back in and the array comes up DEGRADED and I can access all of the data. I need some help, documenation, troubleshooting tips so I can replace the bad drive and get the array to rebuild.

Solved!

OK, I realize I'm probably the only person in the world left using UFS and RAID3. I'll be upgrading HW to move to ZFS Z3 hopefully in the very near future. Here's what happened:

When running RAID3 in FreeNAS and a drive fails replacing the drive should automatically insert the drive and start sync (rebuilding the array). For some reason on this version of FreeNAS (see 1st post, above), it didn't work as it has in previous versions. I have experience replacing drives under this exact circumstance in previous versions and that's what happened, each time.

* and special thanks to the guys in #freebsd

All I had to do was manually insert the replaced drive. You will note the 2nd link under References matches up with my posted graid3 status (also above, in code tags):

Code:
graid3 insert raid3 ada0

Then I received confirmation:
Code:
[root@freenas] ~# graid3 status
Name Status Components
raid3/raid3 DEGRADED ada2 (ACTIVE)
                       ada1 (ACTIVE)
                       ada0 (SYNCHRONIZING, 0%)

I think that speaks for itself.

Thank you for all of the help and support!
