Creating a separate log device?

Hi guys,

I have FreenAS 8.0.2 amd64, running on my box. I would like to add a SSD drive and use it as separate log device, in order to accelerate the writes to my ZFS Raid Z1 array. I was wondering if you know a guide or tutorial that will let me know how to modify the current configuration and implement the SSD as log device.

Hi TECK,

I know it's been discussed somewhere here in the forums. I think the overall thought was that unless you are running some serious enterprise server that the advantage wasn't worth it and other stuff could be done to get better performance before adding a log device.

Thanks for the reply, that settles it on the performance side. I will add instead another set of dual nic's to the NAS and send the data through LACP.
