I have a Ubuntu box that had 3 1TB drives, it died. Always wanted to create a NAS. So i have this old Dell PowerEdge 700 server that I want to create a NAS on using the 3 1TB drives from the old Ubuntu box, plus another 1TB drive I have for backups. So essentially I would like to create a NAS box with 4 1TB drive, having 2 Drives act as my data drives and the other 2 act as a backup drive. What is the best scenario to accomplish this using ZFS? Also, when I setup the drives, will it erase the data I have on them? 2 Drives have data on them and 2 don't. The PowerEdge has 2 sata slots for the drives and I will be using an external drive carrier for the other 2 drives, thinking about either purchasing a SCSI drive or should I just run FreeNAS from a flash drive inserted in the USB slot, not sure if this is USB 1.0. I can get a SCSI drive cheap so I'm head that direction.

Agree. Limited max memory and other factors wouldn't make it a good choice.

Starting/Maximum Memory 256MB/4GB DDR400MHz
