Watched a fun youtube video about this recently, specifically sound chips in that case but I'm sure it's the same.

The cpus aren't fake themselves, they'll be real Intel/AMD etc chips, but the markings on the packaging are very likely fake so you can't trust them to be what they say they are. Or even when they are correct, you can't trust them to be new or even well treated.
