Anybody know of any other good software other than couchpotato and sonarr?

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but couchpotato is pretty much discontinued and sonarr pretty just uses private indexers that one needs a damn invite to. Aside from the RSS torrent feed that I question.

Or does one have to jump back to the 90's and just use USENET.

Jackett - it allows you to hookup dozens of free (and private) trackers to Sonarr, CouchPotato, Radarr etc.

Quick install for Jackett:
Create new jail with default settings
Open the shell for this jail ether from FreeNas GUI or by executing iocage console jail_name over SSH.

pkg update pkg upgrade pkg install -y jackett (this will take few minutes - if it timeouts just repeat the command - there are a lot of dependencies)
sysrc jackett_enable=YES service jackett start

go to http://jackett.jail.IP:9117/ and configure indexers in Jackett, copy API key.

go to your Sonarr/Radarr Indexers configuration, add new custom Torznab.
URL: http://jackett.jail.IP:9117/torznab/all/
API: paste API key

Personally I have had good success with Sonarr/Radarr for many years and had never needed to use Jackett.

What did you find that Jackett gave you over just using Sonarr/Radarr in reference to usenet only? I have had many of the same indexers for years and still have really yet to have problems, but I always look for ways to improve or automate.

I never used Usenet and Jackett is strictly for Torrent trackers. By default Sonarr and by extension Radarr offer minimal torrent tracker support. Jackett fixes that.

Ah okay, yeah I have not needed to use torrents since using usenet for 10+ years.

Usenet was "the thing" before bittorrent. Then Bittorrent blew up to the point where the DMCA got born to stop pirating. Now Usenet is getting big again since the DMCA is shutting down a bunch of the Bittorrent indexers.

The funny thing is that to stop Bittorrent just stop the indexers to keep people from finding the data and the people who have copies since is it's like a distributed filesystem. However.... Usenet isn't distributed, you literally download chopped up pieces of the data from a server. And it doesn't seem to have any DMCA issues as badly as bittorrent indexers. ... yet.
