Hello,

I've been trying to paste some script into the shell and have not found how to do it. Copy paste does not seem to work in Chrome or Firefox. I'm currently using FreeNAS-8.3.0-RELEASE-p1-x64 (r12825).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
OCM

Thank you.

I've read that and still makes no sense to me. I don't even know what Putty is.

Anywho. I am determined to figure this out. I've gone this far, not time to give up quite yet.

I'm trying to Setup SMART Reporting via email. and still haven't figured out how to work in SSH to make it all work.

No, that box is unchecked

And, you are trying to login as "root/su". Just type: root

Tried root and root/su and no go. Seems like I need a password. I'm using the password I have set for root.

I've even changed the root password, shut down system, restarted system, tried to log in putty with the new password and its still a no go.

Thats login as root and root/su

Box checked and clicked OK. Logged in as root and still access denied. Now I feel super computer retarded.

Try stopping the SSH service and then restart it. Or, restart the server.

btw, if you don't have a recent backup of the config file, I'd save one, just in case things go awry while you are modifying files on the flash drive.

Still a no go. I did notice something odd. I'm getting the same error of (check /var/run/sshd.pid) when trying to start sshd. Just like my SMARTD test are not running every 30 min. Here is the thread for that. I wonder if it has anything to do with it.

Apr 20 17:55:00 freenas notifier: Stopping sshd.
Apr 20 17:55:00 freenas notifier: Will not 'restart' sshd because sshd_enable is NO.
Apr 20 17:55:29 freenas notifier: sshd not running? (check /var/run/sshd.pid).
Apr 20 17:55:29 freenas notifier: sshd not running? (check /var/run/sshd.pid).
Apr 20 17:55:29 freenas notifier: Starting sshd.

Try restarting the server and toggling the SSH service off, then on.

That was the fix in the last message in this thread: sshd_enable-is-NO

Set Root password as: freenas

Shutdown NAS box

Restarted NAS box

Toggled SSH off then on

Opened PuTTY (Release 0.62) and typed in IP address

Logged in as Root

Putty asked me: root@192.168.1.4's password:

I type in: freenas

I get: Access denied (you idiot computer illiterate moron )

I start banging on keyboard  then walk away for a few minutes.......

Then come back and ask for more help :)

freenas is the default password for the admin user. Did you assign a password for the root user? If not, add a password for root.

admin and root are different accounts.
