Good morning everyone!!
We have been testing the Truenas Core, and seeing that it gave us good results, we want to expand its capacity.
Our hardware supplier offers us a Western Digital DC HC520 SATA3 7.2K 12TB 256MB disk.
Is it compatible with Truenas Core?
Is there any album that they don't recommend?

Thank you so much!!

WD DC HC520 is a very good choice for TrueNAS.
It is an datacenter-class harddisk with helium technology.

The bigger models (HC530, HC550) are also very good choices.

Just about any disk will work
Just make sure they are NOT SMR drives - which will cause you grief. These are basically some consumer drives and some WD Red Drives
WD Red Plus and better should be fine
I would avoid consumer level drives and stick with NAS certified drives - but not WD Red (without the plus)

Consumer drives may also have automatic spin down and head park. This can cause problems because a NAS might cause them to spin up quite a bit. So much so, that might be the reason the disk might die before running out of spare sectors.

For example, my media server uses a cheap 2TB laptop drive. But, since the application makes it spin up alot, I ended up with 48,463 load cycles in a few months. After I noticed that, I changed it to leave it spinning all the time. (To prevent wear and tear on both the platter motor, it's electronics and the head parking hardware.)

I use a pair of that model in one of my servers, and they work well -- see 'BILBO' in 'my systems' below.

I was careful to purchase the 4kn model OF30141, which does not have the 'Power Disable' feature, details here:

Search the forum and you'll find many users who inadvertently bought disks with this feature and found that the disks won't power up in their systems.

I'm using an older Supermicro chassis where this isn't a problem; but not having it means it can't bite me in the future if I use these disks in a different chassis.
