I attempted FreeNAS 11 years ago, I liked it but it didn't seem ready for prime time and had issues with my existing hardware. I decided to go with a hardware raid solution with esata. It has served me well, but is a ticking time bomb with five disks > 9yrs old and five disks >5yrs old. (The data is backed up to S3, but would rather not have to download it all).

I am going to attempt FreeNAS / TrueNAS core again now that it is more mature, and has significant advantages over a hardware raid.

Here is my parts list I have developed after a lot of reading and pulling my hair out. I would love feedback and any potential problems I might run into. I could add a m.2 slog drive if you guys think it would be worth it, but the board says it supports 2260 only. I also understand with this board I will have to flash the onboard LSI adapter to IT mode to make it work. I am very comfortable doing that so no problems there.
