Cloud Sync Backup of Google Drive native .gdoc, .gslides, .gsheets data vs. just the link

I have files in Google drive made by the native Google apps.

Does Cloud Sync back these files up as the native file format which is never seen anywhere unless you do something like described here ?

Basically, I want to protect my files from Google suddenly deciding to wipe out my account. So I need the actual data in the file rather than a link (which would be blown away if they delete my account).

Does Cloud Sync sync the SOURCE data? or just a link? How would I sync the actual source data so i could restore my files in such a case to a new account?

I'm guessing Cloud Sync uses rclone which does the right thing...
