Hi guys

I'm trying to Install Transmission via the plugin section, but I keep getting this error.

Error: HTTPConnectionPool(host='download.freebsd.org', port=80): Max retries exceeded with url: /ftp/releases/amd64 (Caused by NewConnectionError('< urllib3.connection.HTTPConnection object at 0x83db00760 >: Failed to establish a new connection: [Errno 8] Name does not resolve'))

Anyone experiencing something similar?

@MortenSJ, the error says the system couldn't resolve download.freebsd.org. Under Network->Global Configuration, do you have a default gateway and DNS servers defined?

This depends entirely on your particular network. If your Internet connection is a typical consumer DSL line or similar, the address of your router is your best bet. If this is a corporate environment, ask your network administrator.
You could also look what your desktop PC/Mac/whatever is using ...

Yes, i'm just on a regular DSL home connection. Can someone explain why I need to do this and what it has to do with not beeing able to connect to the download.freebsd.org Apologies if this is super basic, but i'm not sure I completely get it.

My advice is to just install Transmission to a jail manually. I'll bet my left testicle you sort these network issues out and then get an error about the dataset not being mounted. Don't waste your time, just install manually.

How is he supposed to install manually if he cannot download anything?

For any device in your network that device needs to have
  • a valid IP address matching your network
  • a matching subnet mask
  • a nameserver (also called a DNS server or a resolver)
  • a default gateway
Without going too much into network fundamentals - without all 4 of those configured correctly ... no Internet.
Regularly desktop PCs and the like, phones, tablets ... all get these parameters automtically by a mechanism called DHCP.

If you have a server like a NAS and configure your IP adress manually like most do, so it always has the same fixed address, then you must also configure nameserver and default router manually. Or ... no Internet, see above.

Yeh... obviously talking about the point at which the network is functional.

Si todavia no puedes:

Espero ayudarte!
