I think I'm still using freenas-FreeNAS-9.2.1.7-RELEASE-x64. It was working last I checked a couple of months ago. I decided to open the GUI today and got this:

An error occurred.
Sorry, the page you are looking for is currently unavailable.
Please try again later.

I can connect to Plex, Transmission, Headphones, etc, but I can't load the FreeNAS GUI or SSH into it. I'm afraid rebooting it will prevent me from using anything at all. Has anyone had this occur?

Do you have physical access to the console? It has options for accessing a shell so you can check networking, read /var/log/messages, restart nginx, etc.

So I decided to just restart it and FreeNAS won't load. One of the drives may be down because I keep seeing an error in the IPMI console with one of the ata connections. I had 3 new NAS drives in raid-z configuration and 2 very old 250 GB sata drives in mirror configuration. I suspect and hope it's just the older drives failing because the data on those aren't important. What's my next step? Sorry, I haven't had the time to deal with my server and I forgot most of the stuff I learned.

First thing is to try to turn it off and then power it back on.

Did you have a backup of your configuration file?

Instll a new USB Flash boot drive (if that is your boot device) and load FreeNAS on it. Restore your configuration file if you have it or if not, import your pool. Backup your important data if you can access it.

Do not neglect your NAS. FreeNAS is not a NAS you can just forget about it. Not saying it's isn't stable, just so many physical things could go wrong like a USB Flash drive or hard drive.

So because it's stuck in a boot loop, it could possibly be just the flash drive?

I didn't want to reinstall FreeNAS and since I remember seeing ada4 when it failed to start, the first thing I tried was unplugging sata4 on the motherboard and it worked. Apparently, one of the mirrored 500 gb (not 250) failed.

If I wanted to replace that 500 gb drive with a mirrored 1 tb drive, how will I go about it? Do I install the 1st 1tb drive, mirror the 500gb onto it and then extend the volume, then add the 2nd 1tb drive?

I haven't had time to connect to the server to try the ping. I'll report back in the next few days.
