Hi, I am trying use my 8TB Seagate backup+ hub USB drive in my FreeNAS machine. It cannot be viewed as a disk in FreeNAS. I am running FreeNAS on ESXI.
usbconfig sees the seagate.
ugen0.1: <0x15ad XHCI root HUB> at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=SUPER (5.0Gbps) pwr=SAVE (0mA)
ugen0.2: <Seagate Backup+ Hub BK> at usbus0, cfg=255 md=HOST spd=SUPER (5.0Gbps) pwr=ON (100mA)
ugen0.3: <VMware VMware Virtual USB Mouse> at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=FULL (12Mbps) pwr=ON (0mA)

In dmesg, the seagate never gets umass or get assigned to a da#.
ugen0.1: <0x15ad XHCI root HUB> at usbus0
uhub0: <0x15ad XHCI root HUB, class 9/0, rev 3.00/1.00, addr 1> on usbus0
uhub0: 8 ports with 8 removable, self powered
usb_alloc_device: Failure selecting configuration index 0:USB_ERR_SHORT_XFER, port 1, addr 1 (ignored)
ugen0.2: <Seagate Backup+ Hub BK> at usbus0
ugen0.3: <VMware VMware Virtual USB Mouse> at usbus0

This drive works fine in ubuntu and windows in my ESXI machine. Is it because the seagate backup+ hub not compatible with FreeNAS/FreeBSD? Can anybody help me?
Thank you.

Which build version of FreeNAS (from System -> Information)?

Which version of ESXi?

Which filesystem on the USB drive?

FreeNAS version FreeNAS-11.1-U1

ESXi 6.5.0 Update 1 (Build 7388607)

The default filesystem is NTFS. I also tried to format to exFAT and EXT4. None of them are working.
I also tried USB2.0 controller and USB3.0 controller. Both are not working.

I gave up and simply opened my external drive and put the hard drive directly in the system. It is just disappointing that Seagate external USB drive isn't compatible with FreeNAS.
