Hi all,

I'm trying to connect my xenserver to freenas through 1 Qlogic-2460 and 1 Qlogic-2340 P2P.

I run the lspci | grep "ISP" and get the following output:
06:00.0 Fibre Channel: QLogic Corp. ISP2312-based 4Gb Fibre Channel to PCI-X HBA
(rev 02)

As long as I get the the card output, I supposed it is working correctly. Maybe? The ISP4232(FreeNas) card shows solid green light indicating that it is connected to a 2Gbps port, wich sounds about right, considering the XenServer end has a ISP2312 card.

But, when I go to the XenServer 7.2 and try to add the source HARDWARE HBA, I get the message "No LUNs were found. Please verify your hardware configuration".

I followed this link: https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/fc-target-support-in-freenas-9-1-0.14139/page-2
and this too: https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?resources/fibre-channel-on-freenas-11-1u4.93/

I can see that my drivers are loaded by the following output:

[root@freenas ~]# ctladm portlist -f
ctladm: option requires an argument -- f
ctladm: option requires an argument -- f
Port Online Frontend Name pp vp
0 YES tpc tpc 0 0
1 NO camsim camsim 0 0 naa.500000058795ab02
2 YES ioctl ioctl 0 0
3 YES camtgt isp0 0 0 naa.210000e08b8eb8e4
4 YES iscsi iscsi 1 1 iqn.2005-10.org.freenas.ctl:fc,t,0x0001

[root@freenas ~]# ctladm lunlist
(7:2:0/0): <FreeNAS iSCSI Disk 0123> Fixed Direct Access SPC-5 SCSI device

...and I thing I've created the LUN correctly:

[root@freenas ~]# ctladm lunlist
(7:2:0/0): <FreeNAS iSCSI Disk 0123> Fixed Direct Access SPC-5 SCSI device

My freenas version is 11.1-U4.

I'ld really appreciate any help. I've just ran out of options here.

Thanks a lot

When you can have 10Gb Ethernet, why would you want 2 or even 4Gb FC? It makes no sense.

Then there is this...
I get the message "No LUNs were found. Please verify your hardware configuration".

I got 10Gb Ethernet working within ten minutes with no difficulty at all. It took longer to shut the servers down and put the cards in than it took to configure them and have them working.

Thanks for your links Chris,

You are absolutely right. Is insanely easier to setup the NIC card against all trouble of HBA FC, but...

I chose the QLE2460 for 2 reasons:

1 - My array is composed by 8 HDDs 5400RPMs in RaidZ2.

2 - Most important is that, here where I live, the 10Gbps NIC card is roughly 10x more expensive than the HBA FC card I'm using.

Thanks

Hi,

Alter alot of card changes I found the perfect match (2 QLE2460) and I now can see the card on a LUN scan from XenServer 7.2.
I connect to the LUN, select to format it and I get the following error:

xenserver-node01 xapi: [error|xenserver-node01|628 INET :::80|dispatch:SR.create D:43b8427b3882|backtrace] Raised Server_error(SR_BACKEND_FAILURE_55, [ ; Logical Volume partition creation error [opterr=error is 5]; ])

What that could be?

Thanks.

FreeNAS doesn't support Fiber Channel.
