Cannot create a soft link?

I'm logging into FreeNAS and trying to create a soft link between 2 locations:

# ln -s /mnt/nas/media/Downloads/developer /mnt/nas/unix/home/floren/developer

The link shows as broken, is this normal?

It could be if the paths can't resolve :). Unfortunately, without more information this isn't really actionable right now.
